Job Description

Are you a seasoned expert in bag and backpack development? Can you lead projects and support our product creation team? Salomon has bold ambitions to surpass competitors in the softgoods category, and we’re looking for a Bags & Gear R&D Project Manager (W/M) to help us reach the next level.

Your main missions : 

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Functionally manage the project group, assign tasks, and ensure that everyone understands their role.
  • Agree the needs to be met with all stake holders and the objectives to be achieved as part of the project.
  • Steer the progress of projects in compliance to our processes (timeline etc).
  • Co-validate the performance of the prototypes [cost, lead time, quality, durability, etc.] with the members of the project group.
  • Anticipate and identify the key elements for the legal protection of inventions and identify areas of possible legal risk.
  • Centralise and coordinate the definition, execution, and provision of the technical files [tech pack, CAD, etc.] required for the development phase.
  • Oversee all complex development projects (uncertainty/financial risk/tight schedule/breakdown/transversality) in terms of costs, performance, and deadlines, from project scoping to the production green light.

R&D

  • Propose solutions to ensure that new concepts, designs, components, and materials are in line with project objectives in terms of cost, deadlines, quality, etc.
  • Support the Design & R&D teams to explore, propose and develop innovative, high-performance and reliable solutions.
  • Demonstrate and put into practice proposals and ideas in the form of physical or virtual prototypes.
  • Define a range of operations for the correct production of the prototype in collaboration with the industrial teams.
  • Check that the patterns are produced correctly, identify any problems during the development process and propose corrective solutions to ensure a smooth transition to production.

Specific activity – Responsible purchasing practices [FLA] 

  • You will work closely with the Salomon and Amer Sports Global Sustainability team to ensuring the continuous improvement of our responsible purchasing practices.

 

Qualifications

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 5-10 years’ professional experience in product development desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree preferred
  • Strong knowledge of backpack pattern making and textile materials.
  • Mastery of backpack production techniques, engineering, and industrialization.
  • Knowledge of materials, production techniques and project management methodologies
  • Ability to organize and plan, financial management, confidentiality, ability to innovate or have others innovate
  • Experiences working with suppliers located in Asia

Desired Qualifications

  • Languages: English fluency, French (or 2nd language) a plus
  • IT
    • Command of Pack Office
    • Knowledge of business software such as PLM systems.
