Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:
As a Senior Sample Maker, you contribute to the success of seasonal development process of all product categories by providing quality, on-time concepts, prototypes, and samples that meet Arc’teryx test and performance criteria. You provide mentorship and training to a team of highly skilled sample makers.
This role is based out of our Tokyo Creation Center (TCC) and is not open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Japan.
Meet your future team:
The Sample Making team supports the business in creating and evolving concepts, prototypes, and samples to support our design, development, and manufacturing process. Our team builds strong relationships with cross-functional partners across the product creation engine to realize ideas into commercialized success.

If you were the Senior Sample Maker now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

  •  Leveraging your knowledge of pattern layout and sewing sequence to produce quality and on-time development samples and are confident in providing suggestions for improvement
  • Assembling garments from different types of textiles, such as knits, wovens, coated and laminated fabrics, etc, with in-depth knowledge of material and seam selection criteria
  • Selecting and adjusting sewing machine equipment in order to achieve high quality workmanship, such as foot types and adjustments, needle selection, thread tension, etc.
  • Working with Product Developer, Pattern Maker, and Designer to ensure specs, patterns, and construction align with product requirements and construction standards
  • Ensuring that bulk production processes are considered in the creation of the samples, and that feedback is provided to optimize manufacturing efficiency and maximize product quality
  • Identifying potential construction and quality issues in early phases of the design and development process, and provide solutions to improve
  • Collaborating/ consulting with HQ Cut & Sew team in Vancouver and leverage their expertise and improve manufacturing efficiencies in the design process, and support handover of construction techniques of new designs to the factory
  • Supporting and coach fellow Sample Makers daily, train new hires as required, encourage effective problem solving, teamwork and collaboration, and proactively share knowledge
  • Partnering with Quality, Materials, Design, Development, and other key stakeholders to organize training sessions and workshops for the sample making team to increase knowledge and awareness of new and emerging technologies
  • Traveling to the HQ DC in Vancouver for onboarding training which includes knowing the cultural of Arc’teryx, meeting with the cross functional partners and learn how to properly develop and construct the products
  • Supporting TCC Product Development Director with special projects as needed
  • Upholding Fair Labor Association’s Workplace Code of Conduct and Principles of Fair Labor and Responsible Sourcing throughout the Arc’teryx supply chain.

Here are some of the things you could be working on in the future:

  • Collaborating with the Quality Assurance (QA) team throughout the sample concept stage to meet all construction standards testing requirements
  • Maintaining Standard Operations Procedures (SOPs)
  • Attending refresher classes and building up the curriculum for Sample Maker 2 and Sample Maker 1 roles; supporting with new hire and internal team training
  • Strongly contributing to garment construction ideas, insights, and techniques through all sample stages through to direct development
  • Assisting with technical construction issues at maker’s phase stage and concept sample stage
