With evolving ESG reporting regulations, companies must understand their impact on people and the environment, closely linked with finance-related data. The ESG Controller plays a crucial role in connecting these elements, ensuring compliance and excellence in ESG reporting.

This position is part of Amer Sports’ Financial Reporting team within the Chief Accounting Officer organization. The ESG Controller will collaborate with various stakeholders to meet global ESG regulatory reporting requirements. This role works closely with the Sustainability Team to support both mandatory and voluntary ESG reporting, enhancing systems, processes, and controls.

What you will be doing:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on global ESG reporting matters within the Financial Reporting team, managing the implementation of new ESG standards and related policies, particularly in coordination with Finance and the Sustainability Team.
  • Provide support to Global Finance, Accounting, and other teams in the implementation of new ESG reporting standards and policies, including coordinating with external advisors.
  • Draft ESG disclosures, enhance data quality and processes, and work with internal stakeholders, such as IT, to automate data collection and analysis.
  • Offer ESG accounting/reporting-related training to finance and accounting teams worldwide.
  • Develop and maintain an ESG reporting handbook and policies aligned with SEC and CSRD requirements for global use.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather and verify data for consolidated ESG reporting and support internal/external audits.
  • Establish and maintain an ESG governance and control framework in partnership with Risk & Controls, Internal Audit, and the Sustainability team to ensure compliance.
  • Identify and implement improvements to financial reporting processes and systems.
  • Stay up to date on relevant ESG reporting regulations and standards and implement necessary changes to accounting and reporting practices.
  • Support other finance-related projects as assigned.

What you need to succeed:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field; CPA and/or Master’s degree (MBA, Accounting, etc.) strongly preferred.
  • U.S. CPA license or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, ideally a combination of Big 4 public accounting and public company industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ESG reporting standards (e.g., SEC, CSRD, GRI) and non-financial reporting practices.
  • Expertise in U.S. GAAP technical accounting and SEC reporting, with familiarity in SOX internal controls and COSO.
  • Proven advisory and consultative skills with the ability to build strong working relationships across global teams.
  • Experience implementing accounting standards and managing special projects.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting/reporting issues clearly.
  • Proficiency in ESG data management systems and tools for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
